Columbia Housing Gives a BIG Thank You to the Ray Tanner Foundation!
Organization and Volunteers Distributed More Than 2,000 Resident Meals for Sunday Dinner
Columbia, SC.....As the COVID 19 novel coronavirus pandemic began to take hold in Columbia, SC in March and April, many organizations reported a reduction in charitable giving and community outreach. Not so for Karen Tanner and the Ray Tanner Foundation. Facing a backdrop of coronavirus community spread and rising numbers, the Ray Tanner Foundation reached out to form a partnership with Columbia Housing to help reduce the threat of food insecurity for families in public housing.
The Tanner Foundation gifted residents with Sunday Dinner as part of its Celebration Sunday project with support from Contract Construction, Ken and Cyndi Long, Southern Way Catering, and a host of volunteers.
"This is a very uncertain time for so many in our community," says Interim Executive Director Ivory Mathews. "To have the Tanner Foundation step up to serve at such a time of challenge is such a blessing. We can't thank them enough for the care and respect they've shown our residents."
The delicious, nutritious meals featured favorites like roasted chicken, honey baked ham, fresh fruits, and vegetables. Altogether, 2,000+ meals were provided to Columbia Housing families over a 5-week period.
