Extreme Heat Alert - Take Precautions
Date Posted: 07/22/2020
Attention Columbia Housing Residents:
High temperatures combined with high humidity will create dangerous weather conditions in the midlands over the next week. Please review the following recommendations and stay safe!
- Listen to the local news for critical updates from the national weather service [NWS).
- Never leave children or pets alone in enclosed vehicles.
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids even if you do not feel thirsty.
- Avoid drinks with caffeine or alcohol.
- Eat small meals and eat more often.
- Avoid extreme temperature changes.
- Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothing. Avoid dark colors because they absorb the sun's rays.
- Slow down, stay indoors and avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest part of the day.
- Take frequent breaks if you must work outdoors.
- Check on family, friends and neighbors.
Remember COVID-19 is still a threat
- COVID transmission does not decrease in hot weather.
- People infected with, or recovering from COVID-19 are likely more vulnerable to heat stress.
- Maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from other people when you must go out.
- Wear a mask when you must go out.
